Broadway Shows: Entertainment Meets Education in the Spotlight

The educational value of your trip increases when you add a Broadway show to your itinerary! By providing an engaging way to learn about historical events, narrative techniques, and social issues, these live performances enhance students’ understanding of complex themes, promote cultural literacy, and foster empathy through shared experiences. Research indicates that attending live theatre can improve knowledge retention, vocabulary, and emotional intelligence, as students are more likely to connect with the material in a dynamic setting compared to reading or watching film adaptations. Broadway shows often intertwine important social issues and historical contexts, making them relevant to classroom discussions and expanding students’ perspectives on various topics.

Arts for Autism: Make Your Broadway Debut and Support a Great Cause

Join us for Arts for Autism, an unforgettable one-night-only Broadway benefit concert, where the brightest stars of Broadway share the stage with talented performing arts students from across the nation. Hosted at a premier New York City theatre such as the New Amsterdam Theatre on Broadway, this special event has been spreading acceptance, compassion, and understanding for those impacted by autism since 2016. The Arts for Autism program stands out amongst performance opportunities by bringing young people together – neurodiverse and non-neurodiverse – to perform musical theatre side by side with an appreciation for one another’s differences.

Over the years, our concerts have been hosted by renowned Broadway talents such as Tony Award winner Kelli O’Hara, Hamilton’s Christopher Jackson, Frozen’s Caissie Levy, Aladdin’s Adam Jacobs and Michael James Scott. Every year, 100% of the funds raised from Arts for Autism are distributed as grants to organizations that work tirelessly to improve the lives of people impacted by autism.

Broadway Shows Can Complement your Classroom Lessons

  1. Bringing literature to life: Shows based on classic novels like “The Outsiders” can help students better understand and connect with the source material they’re studying in English or literature classes.
  2. Enhancing history lessons: Historical musicals like “Hamilton” or “Suffs” can make historical events and figures more engaging and memorable for students learning about American history.
  3. Exploring social issues: Many shows tackle important social themes like racism, identity, bullying, etc. that align with topics discussed in social studies or civics classes.
  4. Demonstrating artistic techniques: Students can observe practical applications of concepts learned in theatre, music performances, or art classes.
  5. Improving vocabulary and language skills: Exposure to dialogue and lyrics can expand students’ vocabulary and language comprehension.
  6. Fostering critical thinking: Analyzing characters, plot, themes, and artistic choices encourages students to think critically and form interpretations.
  7. Providing cultural context: Shows set in different time periods or cultures can give students insight into diverse perspectives and historical contexts.
  8. Inspiring creativity: Seeing professional productions can motivate students interested in theatre, music, dance, or other creative pursuits.
  9. Enhancing emotional intelligence: Experiencing characters’ journeys can help students develop empathy and understanding of complex human emotions.
  10. Sparking classroom discussions: A shared theatre experience gives students and teachers common ground for meaningful post-show conversations and analysis.

By helping educators select shows that align with curriculum, we seek to maximize the educational value of Broadway experiences for your students.
